CARBON FIBRE SHINGUARDS

GL SPORT's workshops produce various carbon fibre shinguards using different methods, always seeking the most innovative solutions. For all our technical prowess, we never forget our origins and, relying on a 50-year presence in the orthopedic industry, design all our models for comfort and an anatomical fit.

All models are designed in-house by our technical office by means of CNC milling machines and the latest 3D-printing equipment, which favours a rapid prototyping and testing process. Once models are designed and tested, they undergo field tests before the start of production. Each production step is carefully controlled by a dedicated engineer seeking to provide athletes with the lightest, most comfortable, protective and efficient product possible.

The broad product range goes from classic monocoque models available in two sizes, to single-size Flex models, up to models with the fibula side protection. Classic lines have been recently expanded with the TOP line, produced with aeronautical materials in an autoclave to create superior products with hitherto unseen technical features, e.g., extra light and extra thin construction.

As though that were not enough, these models provide an spectacular-gloss finish, conferring the product an outstanding visual and design impact. But we're not stopping there: We are studying and continuously implementing ever more innovative functional and design solutions to retain our industry lead.

FOOTBALL AND RUGBY BOOTS

Staying true to the spirit that inspires all GL SPORT products, we decided to implement a new production line for football / rugby boots. At the start, we focused mostly on materials: Calf leather is extremely soft and comfortable, conveying the sough-after feeling of wearing a "glove" around your feet. We soon acknowledged the amazing potential of the genuine leather and carbon frame combination, which gives the product a unique touch of modernity. As for synthetic materials, there is a growing trend to rely on Ecolorica. This is a zero-impact, environment friendly material, which mimics the sensations offered by genuine leather. Moreover, lines produced in Ecolorica allow several footwear customisations including graphics, inscriptions, and numbers.

On the aesthetic side, athletes can create and design their own pair of sporting boots to match their wildest imaginations - sky is the limit! Boots come in 6-cleat, 13-cleat, or mixed cleat configurations for endless possibilities.

Boot production unfolds in the 500m2 in-house workshop in Sanguinaro (PR), fitted with the latest printing equipment, and also responsible for all material testing. All stages from cutting the uppers, to printing, to final assembly are performed internally. Custom football boots represent the ultimate combination of technology and craftsmanship. In fact, starting from a 3D foot scan, GL SPORT technicians produce boots to match exactly the foot size and shape, managing any special situations or issues (bursitis, tendonitis, etc.).

Also in this case, the choice of materials, design, and graphics is performed step by step with the athlete! The mould is a one-off 3D print, which GL SPORT will use when athletes order their pair via phone or whatsapp at any time.

FACE MASKS

Custom-made protective masks are produced in-house with a unique system that allows shaping the mould without physical contact. The digital processing methodology provides higher accuracy, shorter lead times, and lower costs. Furthermore, products are made and ready to use within three to four hours, allowing "out-of-towners" to design and pick up their items on a single day trip. This is accomplished by means of a 3D scanner, which digitises the face within minutes without any physical contact, offering thus extreme precision and practicality.

Once the face is scanned (the scan takes 5 seconds), GL SPORT's specialised technicians edit and download the injured part to be isolated using a three-dimensional mouse. Next, we produce a high-density, polyurethane foam model, which is used afterwards to manufacture the carbon fibre mask.

Masks obtained with this construction process present several advantages:
  • 3D scanner-based face measurement (this avoids pressing down on sore areas while shaping the mould, allowing maximum precision not attainable with conventional systems)
  • Masks offer outstanding comfort and fit to exercise without extra weight or concern;
  • Working with a three-dimensional mouse ensures the accurate download of the desired point, while still providing support points on other areas;
  • Masks are extremely light yet very sturdy, offering thereby protection even upon violent impacts;
  • Product graphic design can be obviously customised, and graphics can be agreed during construction at no additional cost;
  • Short production lead times: Marks are available and ready to use within approx. 3h;
  • Cost must be estimated according to specific needs but, in general, the following pricing guidelines apply:
    • Nasal septum protection mask: 390 Euro
    • Cheekbone / Septum-cheekbone protection mask: 450 Euro
We can create masks to protect any face region: Jaw, cheekbone, forehead, orbital plate, chin, etc ... Getting to GL SPORT is easy thanks to the proximity of Fidenza Station, and the Milan-Parma and Bologna airports. In recent years, athletes from all over Europe have paid GL SPORT a visit to create their custom masks.

CUSTOM SPORTS ORTHOSES

GL SPORT regards athlete development as a comprehensive exercise, and thus considers sports orthoses of paramount importance. Also in this case, the use of digital technology is prevalent, starting from the 3D foot scan or via the Amfit system. Our fully equipped workshop produces just-in-time orthoses. In particular, it takes GL SPORT approximately an hour to perform a biomechanics and baropodometric assessment of walking / running - also on the treadmill - and produce your custom orthosis.

Special sports protections can be produced upon individual user request and on a case-by-case basis. In this case too, the combination of shock-absorbing materials and composite materials leads to products with very high functional features. Leveraging our great technological expertise, we rely on the latest 3D scanning equipment to accurately map the body part to be protected.

Then, we edit the scan file as required through 3D design software. Taking the modified file as a basis, we manufacture the mould and build the workpiece and, after the tests on the athlete, the product is finished and delivered. The whole procedure unfolds within a few hours, so athletes need only one short visit to design and pick up their protection. Costs and procedures must be assessed from time to time according to the request type.
